Dear Catherine,
I didn't know if it was a symptom of the cortisone (or one of the antihistamines I am taking)or rather a symptom of my allergy to cumin, but I too have experienced numbness/tingling in my tongue, lips and mouth/nose area. I had a huge cortisone injection on July 9th when my colleagues called in the paramedics because I had massive hives and was having trouble breathing (angioedema)following exposure to cumin. Since then, I have been on oral cortisone (prednisone) to combat hives and swelling of the windpipe. Weight gain, water retention, and dry mouth are on-going side effects, but since I also take 2 antihistamines daily, some of these side effects can be attributed to them rather than to the prednisone. Weird taste, yes, that too, but I believe it comes from the dry mouth symptom. The numbness/tingling lasted about 3 weeks. However, there was another side effect, which I attribute directly to the cortisone injection. About 24 hours following the injection, I experienced horrible abdominal cramping (similar to contractions in labor), heart palpitations, shivering and a cold sweat. This came on in the middle of the night and lasted for about an hour. Did this happen to you too? Have you received any other answers to your question? I'm interested of course... Best regards,
Lisa

Ok, I got 2 steroid injections 1 1/2 weeks ago and since have had dry mouth really bad. There have been no changes in my medications or anything else that would attribute to this issue. I went to the Dr yesterday and they were not able to figure out any reason as to why I had dry mouth. They were suspicious of the shots though and wanted me to go see an ENT if it didn't get better. Like the person above, my tongue feels numb in places and I have a lack in taste. One idea the Dr had was that maybe the shot elavated my blood sugar which may be the reason for the dry mouth. All speculation at this point. They were baffled.

I received cortisone injections (2) in my elbow for bursitis on Wednesday afternoon. By early evening I was nauseaus and had horrible taste in my mouth. I only slept 2 hours the night after the injections. I felt like I had drank 10 cups of coffee, jittery, heart palpitations and anxious. My doctor's office said they had never heard of any above reactions. Thank you for the previous posts as I thought I was losing my mind. My symptons have dissapated and I was able to sleep a litte more last night. Bad taste is gone. It is now exactly two days since injections.

I take Toprol XL 25 mg for palpitations and Cozaar 50mg for hypertention. 2 days ago I received a corticosteroid injection in my right knee for tendinitis. The next afternoon started having palpitations and has continued to the 3rd day so far. Will this stop? I know that Depomedrol injections are time released over 10 day period because I've had them before with no side effects like these. Can you please advise with some information please?
