How can I get off of Lortabs in the privacy of my home?

Anyway, his first prescription was something called oxycotin, it made me see thing(like flying and crawling things) but it stopped the pain. But I couldn't take it and work. So he started me on the loritabs and I didn't like them at first. And after a while it seemed almost natural the way they they relieved the pain.
But last year I was fired from my job(after 34 and a half years) and after 3 monthes my insurance ran out and now I don't have any insurance, and my doctor (of nine years) won't even take a phone call from me. So he definitely won't write refills for the Loritabs. After writing this prescription for that long,(1998) he has to know how hard it will be to just stop taking them. I tried before to stop taking them and it was the most awful thing I've ever tried to do in my life.
When I told my doctor about what I was trying to do, and why. I told him that one day something like this might happen, he said "You don't have to worry about that, not unless you're looking for another doctor". Now it's the time I've often dreaded. And I've heard of those detox centers, and most of them where I live are connected with the hospital system that I use to worked for, and I don't want to go there and have all those nosy busy bodies in my business. So, if ther is a way to do this at home, would sure like to know how it's done. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You!
